It’s been a busy summer for our SOPA members, and we’re thrilled to see so many organic Scottish producers recognised for the hard work they put in to their fantastic products. We were delighted to find out that two SOPA (Scottish Organic Producers Association) certified businesses were amongst the winners at the Food Awards Scotland.
Food Awards Scotland celebrate and reward the very best in Scottish food hospitality, from servers to specialists and suppliers. This year, the event took place on Monday 15th August at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Glasgow.
Voted for by the Scottish public, The Food Awards are designed to recognise the best that Scotland has to offer, with awards going to the best of the best when it comes to Scotland’s Restaurants, Takeaways, Gastro Pubs, Hotel Restaurants, Cafes and Bistros. It’s not all about places to eat though, as they also shine the spotlight on the local producers who provide their essential ingredients.
The winner of the ‘Bakery of the Year’ award went to SOPA certified Breadshare Community Bakery. Breadshare is based in Portobello, Edinburgh, and they are a social enterprise that aims to serve and involve the community by making excellent, nutritious bread using organic ingredients and distinctive local products, helping to create a more sustainable and health-enhancing food system.
The award for ‘Dessert Outlet of the Year’ went to Chocolate Tree; Edinburgh’s only bean to bar chocolate maker. They work in small batches, producing a range of speciality organic drinking chocolate and organic chocolate bars.
Congratulations to Breadshare and Chocolate Tree for their fantastic achievements!
